Potential Problems

Introduction

In this tab, I am going to compile a list of potential problems that I may face on project and the steps that I will take to deal with them.

Band Member Commitment

In my final project, I will be collaborating with a few older individuals who are neither in College or University. As this is a college project and I have certain targets to hit, I will have to make sure that everyone is on board and can commit to rehearsals as well as performances.

In order to ensure that all of the band members are committed, I will make my project plan clear to them when asking them to join the band as well as regularly involving them in decisions and notifying them on developments in the project. As a few of the band members have full time jobs, I will be notifying them in good time about gig dates in order to allow them to book time off of work. I will also be taking on most of the responsibilities in the band so as to free up as much of our time together as a band on rehearsals. These responsibilities  will include songwriting and arranging, event management and event preparation.

Heavy Workload

Prior to starting my project, I am already projected to have a heavy workload as multiple people have asked me to play in their bands as well as the scale of things that I want to achieve with my main band Mother Fungus.

In order to deal with this workload, I will need to prepare in advance to deal with it. I will be looking into the best way to balance my workload efficiently as well as how to deal with stressful situations. If situations do become too stressful and outweigh the benefits and enjoyment that I am getting from the process , then I will look to step back from it.

In order to manage my stress level, I will be creating daily lists so as to tackle any potential problems that I face as well as doing weekly evaluations which will allow me to look at the positives and negatives of my current situation.

Mine and The bands Physical Health

During the project, there is potential that for events such as gigs, some band members may not be able to partake due to illness. There is also the potential that for my final performance, I might be unable to play for the same reason and therefore I will need to set insurance measures in place.

The main insurance measure that I will be taking is to do a mock gig in a professional venue which is external to college. This will mean that I will be performing to a professional level at least twice in my project meaning that if I am only able to attend the mock performance, then I will have a professional aspect to my practical skills. Depending on how much music we end up working on as a band and the style of this music, we might be able to perform as a smaller band in some instances , if certain members of the band can’t perform.

Equipment Condition

For my Final project, I will mostly be using my own Roland keyboard in my roles as a session pianist and Mother Fungus. Therefore if any of my equipment breaks, I will potentially be in a lot of trouble.

To combat this, I will be making sure that I look after my equipment to the best of my ability as well as having back ups for items that I can afford such as aux cables. This will mean that I can replace most of the elements of my performance, however something like my keyboard will be much harder and more costly to replace. In the event that my keyboard does break, I will ask college to help me out by supplying me one for the final performance. As it is a college music event, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Writers Block

Writers block is a problem that could easily put large ideas of the project regarding Mother Fungus in jeopardy. Throughout this project, I want to develop Mother Fungus’s sound by continuously writing songs that fit our musical profile.

I will try to combat writers block by taking different approaches to my songwriting and seeking the help of fellow musicians and songwriters as well as studying professional musicians. By studying professional bands and musicians, I will be able to develop an understanding of their writing techniques which will hopefully inspire me to try out different types of songwriting. By collaborating with different artists, I will be able to write with different instruments in mind as well as receive ideas and feedback from those musicians. If these approaches don’t work, we can attempt to do some covers as a band.
