For the first project of Year 2, we were tasked with 3 main fields of study. These consisted of Event management, Video editing and performance.
Event management
In 2016, Over 30 million people attended either concerts or festivals in the UK. This mammoth statistics highlights just how big the event business is today. With the huge increase in digital streaming and its economic impact on the music industry, concerts have now become imperative to the success. Therefore in order to pursue a career in music performance, it is hugely important to be able to understand the dynamics that make a concert both run well and stand out.
Video Editing
Thirteen years after Youtube opened up the streaming scene on line, content and viewing statistics are higher than ever. Despacito by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee is currently the highest viewed video on youtube by a fair margin with 5.51 billion views, compared to the next highest, Shape of you by Ed Sheeran coming in at just over 3.8 Billion views. This huge spring in video attention on this platform and many others means that making interesting music videos can be a huge factor in an artists success.
Performance
As I have highlighted in the event management introduction, performing music is a more lucrative business than ever. As a performing musician in today’s market you have to be able to understand many other parts of the music business other than just performance in order to create a career built around performing music.
