Project 1
I enjoyed learning and implementing a variety of different skills in this project as well as seeing the results afterwards. Throughout the project, I put in a lot of effort and I was rewarded by playing a brilliant concert as well as successfully completing an introduction video. I am very excited for some of the future projects that we are going to do and I look forward to improving my skill set in the future. I found the plan I used, basic as it is very useful in terms of helping me structure my project. We had so many things to do that it felt nice to release some of the pressure by assigning certain tasks to certain weeks, therefore I will definitely create plans for future projects as it was key to my success in this project.
Here is the project broken down.
Event management
Overall, I was pleased with how the concert ran, as there weren’t any significant problems that occurred and we sold out the venue that we were playing in. In terms of setting up and packing down the gig everyone undertook their assigned role and were enthusiastic to help out. As it was a college showcase, the crowd was largely made up of family and friends, therefore it would be interesting to look at how to increase the diversity of the demographic in our audiences for projects in the future. In terms of insurance and health and safety, most of this was taken care of as we were representing Bradford college and I have learnt from this project that pat testing and public liability insurance are generally a legal requirement for a performer to work. We experienced no insurance or health and safety incidents on the evening, therefore I think we did a good job in inspecting the potential threats and utilising them.
Performance
Overall I was impressed with the standard of music that our band played at the final performance. We all knew our individual parts very well and I put this down to a large amount of individual and group practice being invested into this project. It would be interesting in the future to see where our band goes as we are hoping to play more gigs and to this we would be required to get a set list of at least 20 songs together which would be challenging to do. In terms of our presentation, I think we could have been slightly more engaging in the crowd, but I think that we improved as time went on and with our final song uptown funk, we really loosened up and started to look less robotic.
Video editing
I think that video editing was the weakest area of this project for me. It was a skill I had never attempted before and it took me a while to get to grips with the basic skills. Despite this, I gave it my best go and I was surprised with the standard of the final product that I produced. It had some strange parts to it, however I was trying to bring across our character from the band into the video and create a slightly different introduction video to what has been made before. In future projects, I would love to use video editing especially to make some music videos. I will spend some more time on imovie experimenting with new techniques as well as refining my current ones as I believe that video editing is a very important skill for many different fields of work and study, therefore I’m sure it will be very useful in the future.
