Reflections – Project 5

Week-1

Practiced Dutch Braids and adding pieces to the hair with Jaz

Added extra piece to the braid by making small pony with rubber band in the front, make a gap and pull the extension through and tighten the hair that’s tied with the band to firm hold the extension, then keep adding the extension to outer part of the braid but keep twisting the extension so it visible on top of the braid.

Jaz has gone through with me of the bridal hair that was practiced in the class, while I was away. So I was shown how to create simple yet full of volume hair style for the bride.

Practiced beach waves using large pink wave create , which I felt was not creating smooth and strong waves as I wanted, so tried curling tongues to create curls and into waves which looked more of curls than waves but my model was happy with curls instead.

Got the brief today – for the final project 5

need to create 3 looks on mood board proposal and pitch,
got given a word to create a look on Health. I have created half healthy and well being and other half drug addiction affects on a person.

First look is based on Health/drugs – This is for all ages audience. but teenagers are most vulnerable due to peer pressure.

Second look – insta Glam- I have chosen Asian Traditional Bridal look- This is for young/middle age audience,

Third look is Musical Theatre- Rapunzel – lively and colorful look – for younger age audience (also creating Snow white look which is also for younger age audience)

Week 2

Jasmin went through power point and gave us hand outs with all afro and Textured hair information, which products to use-and how to maintain textured hair.

Jasmin’s session today was about Textured/Afro hair. Got to detangled hair. Then half side we straightened and other half blow dry to see how much difference it makes, so the straightened side was much softer and smoother when setting, curls looked much defined, where as blow dry side was clean but not smooth, and curls didn’t go as the straightened side did.

Also searched some products are used on textured and afro hair when setting and styling.

This morning we have worked on digital space, to bring thigs to date and in the afternoon continued with Jasmin doing Textured hair styles.

Attended half day -Airbase Introductory Airbrush Make-up Course including theory and practical application of airbrush makeup, at Bradford College.

The Course was delivered by Sam Gilmort, she has gone through details of how the airbrush is set up, which products can be used with airbrush gun, how many drops of the product for application to use e.g if you doing just tint use 10-15 drops of the foundation in to the gun but if you are doing full coverage then need 20 -30 drops then always can top up more if needed. Products to clean the airbrush was shown. There are 2 sizes of the airbrush she has gone through, 1st is dual airbrush, which comes with air before the application, and 2nd is mini as this one is directly ready for the application. we got to practice on one another using primer, foundation, blush, highlighters. There was theory answering questions regarding the airbrush, products and the benefits if using the products, at the end got given Certificates.

Week – 3

This week carried on with Jasmin working on Textured and Afro hair again, we washed textured hair/heads that we created hair styles before the holidays, I carefully brushed out the curls, then shampooed and conditioned the hair using soft hands and down motion to make sure that the hair are not tangled, then towel squeezed water from the hair, heat proof spray applied and dried using hairdryer/ defuser.

I then sectioned hair in 4 on one side Vertical forehead to the nape. I shaped the sectioned hair in to tight twists, placed bobbin Pin to the hair and the nape to secure the twist in place and carried on twisting right to the ends. I used hair gel on textured to keep it smooth and created 4 twists on one side.

Sectioned hair for twists and box pleated styles, then I managed to add pieces to the simple pleat and fishtail pleat, and tried to style pleats which I feel looked attractive.

Week 4

Practiced hair pleats from home

1st Practice – insta glam bridal makeup in class on pear model.

Watched Musical Theatre act 1- to analyse where the lights reflect on the faces of actors, so we get an idea how to adjust makeup accordingly.

Insta-Glam assessment (Look-2)

My first look of the final project 5 – Insta Glam Bridal – I wanted to create this look on mature skin, but there was no model available so I carried it on young look instead. I am happy with out come of this look, I have created soft look as this is what the brides are going for these days. After prepping the skin, applied moisturiser and primer, then applied colour corrector (orange) then foundation matching to my models skin tone, which was light beige, set with clear loose powder, contoured cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, applied blush, I applied loose powder under eyes for any fall out from the eyeshadow, and applied eyeshadow and gel eyeliner, then medium size lashes, dusted of loose powder retouched the blush, out lined lips with lip pensile and used pink matt lipstick to fill the lips and finished the look with applying the highlighter to cheeks, nose and eyes. Pink outfit with green and brown tones in the dress, I could have added the green to the eyes too, but I felt pink and brown with glitter looked good so I skipped the green shade, I feel the jewellery really made the difference and the tied back hair in to a bun and curls to face frame look really good.

next time I will use larger eyelashes, as I feel this will enhance the eyes even better. and I will add other shades to the eyeshadow to match the dress, the scarf I will next time probably swing in front from one shoulder to the other and hair bun I will create more volume. I will also use the nail polish to enhance the hands as It looked dull with out the colour on nails.

Week 5

Created cornrow hair, pleated cornrows on full head then stitched the pleats with a bendy needle on to the head and inserted crochet extensions with the a tool, push the tool through the section ad the extension piece to the hook, close the liver and pull through, then tightened with a knot to secure. managed to do half the head and will carry on to complete the following week.

Second look- Health/Drug addiction

My Second look of the final project – Stimulation Expression on the theme of word given Health/Drug abused skin (I created 2 in 1 look – healthy and unhealthy skin), after prepping the skin and moisturizing and primer, I applied base to the right side as a healthy look, using natural colours but used darker shade in lip so it can look different on the other side, I used hair serum to make hair shiny and twisted in to back with pins, and applied glitter shine mouse around the neck and face for the glow.

other side I prepped the skin and used slightly darker foundation shade to my models skin tone to give it dull tiered skin look, set base with setting powder and used brown, blue and yellow eyeshadow coloures to create scars and bruises around the face, I back comb hair to give rough look and made it fluffy and untidy, and this completed the look.

next time I will not use the eyelashes on the unhealths ide to give it more tired, and may be add some dry powder to give extra dry hair look.

Feed back

Lucia was really impressed with the makeup bruise I managed to create, for one minute she thought it was a real bruise on cheek, over all she liked the look half healthy and glow full skin and half side unhealthy and neglected skin from side effects of drugs.

90s glamour Makeup/Hair created for photographer on Level 5/6 media student.

Was asked by tutor Lucy If I can do 90s blast makeup and hair for a photo shoot, as there was on 40 minutes to get the Hair and makeup done, Lucy asked another student to do the hair and me to do the makeup, Lucia helped to apply the base but then something came-up, so she went and left me to complete the makeup.

I feel We’ve done really well to complete the look in around 45 minutes. The model looked amazing and she was really happy with she out come!

Tried styling one of popular Instagram hair style on textured hair’ and also bit of practice of of my next look from Musical Theatre.

Feedback/comment

Jasmin advised that If I placed bun fill at the in the bun section ot would look good. And really liked the textured hair twists I created and wanted to know how the French pleat alike was done, so I un did the style and showed her how I did it.

Finished full head crochet cornrow extensions which I started in last week lesson, I tried the smaller twisted extension as these looked more natural and eye catching, to insert I pushed crochet loop through the cornrow pleat folding the extension in to half and tie to the loop closing the hook and pull through, remove the loop and make knot to secure, I did this all over full head and tried putting it up in different hair styles.

Musical Theatre-practice Makeup and Hair

I did practice assessment on Musical Theatre-“Rapunzel” today with Jasmin on one of student, I was not expecting this session today, but gave it a go and I feel I managed it really well, after prepping the skin, primed and applied green colour correction on red spors and beige on darker spots , set with wet sponge, applied foundation and set with setting powder, contour the face, applied loose powder under eyes for any fall puts, applied very light brown shadow as s base and pink to inner corner snd dark to outer corner blending it well, also applied same colours to the bottom lids, I used gel eyeliner (though my hooded hooded eyes) but I gave it smudged for softer look and applied wye lashes, while that was drying, i applied peach blush and highlighter, swiped away the loose powder that I applied while doing eye makeup in case any fall out, applied top eyeliner again incase some got removed,

For hair- i twisted sides to the back and secured with bobbin pins and mede loose bun at the back.

Week 6-

Bantu knots

Today we had a class with Jasmin continuing styling textured hair, and we practices creating Bantu knots, and for this we washed hair with shampoo and conditioned, then left it wet for the knots.
we sectioned hair in to straight line and then to make small squares, which then twisted to make it into whirls and tie as small bun and leave to set so the hair can get back curls. We carried this method through full head (spaying to wet the sections, they were drying up) once finished I sprayed the hair to make them damp for better curls, and placed it in to the oven to set till next lesson.

Decorated Rapunzel Pony

I decorated Rapunzel pony with diamonds and small flowers to make it look colourful, and carried out patch test and also practised hair snd eye makeup on media actors for the Musical Theatre project looks (Rapunzel and Snow White), tried pony on Rapunzel, by creating dutch pleat on Skye’s hair to mid section and put the rest pf hair comb back in to a pony so made up hair can be place firmly.

hopefully tomorrow’s practice will be more organised and competed.
Curled Snow white hair in to 1920s twists which Sophy will wear red head band to complete the look.

Practice Assessment on both characters Rapunzel and the Snow white

Cleans, tone, moisturised, primed, then applied green colour correction for the redness, then applied foundation, concealer under eyes, eyeshadow, after base colour, applied yellow inner side and blue outer side of the lids, the actor who is playing snow white was very sensitive touching her eyes, was very difficult to apply eyeliner, just about managed to apply lashes! Went over with gel eyeliner, after applying lashes. Used peach lips and cheeks for Rapunzel and Red lips for snow white, applied highlighter to the high points of the face, and finished with setting spray

For Hair- Rapunzel- I did three half head plats, mid section dutch and sides french plat then putting in to high pony and attachec long extension pony to the hair, dangled to the front over the shoulder.

Snow-White- I created soft curls using straightener with applying hair spray to lock the curls. Followed by head re-bow band.

Snow white is very sensitive, does not like being touched anywhere around her eyes! Really struggled to apply eyeliner even eyelashes. Could not apply eyeliner, though my idea was to apply dark eyeliner and then smudge it to create shadow.

watched the show after the makeover, so can check how the lights reflect makeup, and is any changes need making for the final assessment,

I feel blush on snow white could do with more on to mid cheeks towards the nose as the hair on her face covers the blush! Rapunzel looked amazing under the lights loved the look!.
