Reflection

on Production of character – 1 -Rebeca

What skills do you already possess that will support your role in this production?

Practice skills of makeup and Hair styles from my previous two projects, I feel will help to enhance my skills of makeup and hair of an engagement make over of my actor.

What skills do you ned to develop to support your role in this production?

I have no much knowledge of creating French twist as yet, do I believe practice with this project will give me confidants to be able to create many different style French twist, and develop more confidence in creating attractive makeup look.

How will you ensure that you complete this task with success?

Research from media web pages and magazines will give me ideas and by creating mood board will I feel organised and know exactly what I am doing.

The process so far

How is the project going so far?
Got to meet some of the actors, seen the TV Studio, watched Inside No 9 and Sardine episode 1 from which the actors ate performing, got brief and some other project related information.

What did I learn?

Got to create burn marks with special effects products, couldn’t use gelatine as there was no suitable for vegetarians available. but same effect applied with Scar Wax.

What could I have done better?

If the Vegetarian Gelatine was available O could have practised to know how the texture feels nd the difference from gelatine and wax.

What are my long term implications?

To practice on the hair and makeup look that I will be creating in my next project.

Week 2

Day1- today we have gone through Foundations homework, Primer types and its benefits, and base setting methods.

had further degree level application and education pathways delivered by internal recruitment team.

Looked at magazines for hair and makeup styles and searched on line about primer, foundations and base settings. then carried out skin test and skin prep, primer/foundation base,

Practical foundation base, tried cream foundation on one side and liquid on the other to see how they blend and how much covering the give. I found liquid base easier to apply and it gave smother look.

Evaluation of todays base setting

Mac foundation – I found it very light, tinted more than coverage, however it set ok with the clear face powder.

stick foundation- I found it better coverage even with out colour correct or concealer, gave full coverage easily set with face powder.

Practised on Inside No. 9 Character- Rachel (Alex) soft engagement makeup look.

Demo with Lisa on Emmerdale TV Soap

Bald Cap

Practiced how to set hair and apply cap, to glue and mold it to the skin and apply foundation using air gun or normal skin colour foundation to make it natural bold look. the air gun foundation was very new to practice with, it was not as splashy and messy as I thought it would go all over. molding the cap to skin was good experience, ended up using blue instead of red for the darker hair prep (colour correcting) before the foundation was applied to make the hair better coverage.

Practised Makeup no Makeup look

Feedback/Advice By Jasmin

Jasmin advised as Makeup/no makeup needs to look very natural, though it looked good but lip colour and blush looked little brighter and shinier, so I should blend it little more and take the shine away with face powder for mat look.

Practised Inside No 9 character look.

after makeup no make up look, I took the advantage of time and just darkened the shades for the practice of Inside No 9, TV Screen look.

The process so for

How is the project going so far?
Managing to input information on Digital Space, trying to sort the mood board Images for Inside No.9 – Sardines, as well as practising other elements such as Bold cap, flat hair rap, Demos Nd makeup no makeup.

What did I learn?

I got to use Air Spray for the first tome and got to k ow how to operate it, also first time applied balding cap, and managed to complete the task.

What could I have done better?

I could have applied the cap bit more closer to the scalp, as lumps were showing and could have applied full size cap to make sure it will cover right to bottom of back hair line, I was supposed to apply red colour on cap before foundation buy accidentally applied blue which made it hard to hide the colour.

What are my long term implications?

I need to Practise more on applying the cap correctly and independently, practise more on party make up and blending colours, complete the mood board and practise French pleat for my assessment.

Week 3

practised stubble/grown beard using pros-aid adhesive with cotton buds.
Also used hot rollers to create hair volume and then created hair twist.

Practiced French twist on head,

Practiced on my actor. This was my first time creating French twist hair style on actual person, as the assessment was the next day, I was panicking that if I will be able to create the hair style in time, I guess I managed ok with Jasmin’s tips. but I still watched many video’s on youtube all that evening to get hand of the twist.

Used Magazine for ideas of how to do French Twist (pleat)

Sardines Inside No 9 – Assessment pictures 18th January 2023

Work place setup and actor/Character pictures. I feel the look turned out really good including the hair French twist, after all that evening before watching demos on Youtube kind of paid off in the assessment day!

tutor- Feedback/Advice

Jazmin advised me from my actor practise photos to avoid shine on TV programmed act, as it would standout too much, which I kept in my mind today in assessment and did not use highlighter and also powdered lipstick for matt look. And got very positive remarks from Jasmin for cancelling out shine and really praised the look.

Demo with Lisa Drake on Male Grooming and makeup/no makeup for Tv and Film

We looked at some of the products to use on hair and how to pre skin, also how to trim facial hair and tidy up around neck and ears on men.

Did grooming practice on my husband at home, gave him full hair cut and tidied around his ears and neck using Clippers and trimmers, I threaded his cheeks and eyebrows and then applied hair dye on his beard and eyebrows, I then applied makeup on vitiligo pigmentated skin, by applying orange colour corrector to bring the lighter pares to match the darker natural tone and applied light beige foundation to look natural.

The process so for

How is the project going so far?
It is moving fast, learning many different elements not just makeup but hair and prosthetics too.

What did I learn?
This week had demo from Luci and then practiced bold cap, which went really well, got to use air gun foundation and also did artificial facial hair stubble and beard using glue and net material to apply the hair. practised first attempt on actor for Sardine Rebbeca makeup and just about touched hair to see how long and thick they were to work with. Also had Assessment on Sardines Tv makeup. and had Demo from Lisa on grooming men, trimming facial/neck hair, skin prep and makeup/ no makeup to enhance the look.

What could I have done better?

If I had chance to practice full makeup and hair together, I feel, I would have had more confidence to create the hair style more cleaner for the TV Show assessment.

What are my long term implications?

I will practice on my next look of Bollywood Glam, I will try to practice the look on model to make sure I am confidant on assessment day and can continue to create the same look again if need to do. I will work on making the eye look larger and the hair turban styles. Also I will try to keep the base little more heavier than normal for this look.

Week – 4

Applied Hot and bendy roller for the volume and create 1920s hairstyles with Jazmin. back combing was needed for this hair style to create the volume for the bun.

Pompadour style using hair pray and hair serum for smoother look.

Practice for the Bollywood Character

I practiced today on my model first time for the Bollywood look, It took me 2 hours to with all 3 looks of scarf, I feel I struggled to make the lips fuller, the eyeliner and mascara again smudged on lids which i found it frustrating as it was difficult to clean up. Eye brows are not shaped and I feel they look really bulky with filling, I have asked my model if i can tidy/ shape a bit and she has agreed for me to do it for her before the assessment day. Scarf also turned out difficult to rap, hopefully with some more practice it should work out good.

Scarf- Look 1

Scarf-Look 2

Look 3- with hair down

I tried different hair turban styles to see which looked better for my look and then tried hair down to see if I could do hair down instead, but I felt the turban would look good.

What did I learn?

This week I have managed to try out 1920s hair styles, laying hair for beard, more practice with hot and bendy rollers for volume, also practiced makeup for my next look.

What could I have done better?

I like yo learn more bridal snd party hair styles and other techniques for the top eyeliner and attractive eye makeup. need lot more practice.

What are my long term implications?

Practice more on my next look, Hair styles and other techniques practice, will practice on smoky eye shadow application and head turban practice. hopefully will be tidying my models eyebrows too using threading.

Week – 5

recap of pompadour hairstyles with Jasmin, she gave demo and also created one after.

I managed to create pompadour hair style.

Tidied shape of eyebrows with thread and tweezers of model for my next Bollywood look. few days before the assessment, as I feel I couldn’t get the shape right with it being full grown eyebrows, so I asked my Model if she was ok for me to tidy her brows using threading and I explained it her that it will sting and might be uncomfortable, but she agreed. looked so much nicer and it really suits her and she was happy with the shape too!

Gave hair cut to my son using clippers and scissors over comb. Tidied around his nape and ears.

We had group meeting regarding the course etc. and digital space update in Sarah’s lesson.

Practiced smoky eye makeup of my next assessment look on student in the afternoon Luci’s lesson.

Second Character Rekha- Bollywood actress

What did I learn?

I have recapped Hot and bendy rollers and create pompadour hair style of 1920s. I have also learnt to do black smocky eye look, I have had practice to put up head turban. Also done engagement TV look and the Bollywood actress glam film look.

What could I have done better?

If I had more access to the actor, I wanted to do more practice on my second look make up and turban.

What are my long term implications?

I am looking forward to my next project which is Bridal, my favorite look, I just hope I will find model to work on and able to arrange the outfit, size and jewelry to go with the look.
