Evaluation -project 2

Improved/What went well?

I feel, I have improved my skills by practicing on this projects look, and am happy with the results, feel confident with styling hair, as I had many opportunities to work on prepping the hair for wigs and, curling using many different methods such as curling tongues, rollers, hot rollers etc. this has given me confidence with putting my own imaginative creation of hair styling by watching videos on youtube and looking through the Victorian times Hair styles book from the college library. I practiced the hair style many times on my actor, by curling which enhanced my curling skills, and up styling made me feel one step further in building the skills of hairstyles and adjusting the pins in the place well hidden and not visible on hair. Make up I feel it went well, as Victorian times the trend was to look rosy make up no makeup look. I practiced the make up on my actor (Emily – playing character of Fan- Scrooge’s sister) few times, this made me get to know the features of the actor, and how the products look when applied to her face, especially her eyes are very hooded, therefore I tried every product such as Gel liner, pencil, eyeshadow as a top eyeliner but every product transferred to her lid and messed up the eyeshadow which took longer to clean up, therefore I decided to try small false eyelashes to make the eyes pop and enhance the look, and the this did the trick, false lashes went perfectly well and instant dry liquid eye liner settled quickly and looked stunning on my actor. Rest of the makeup I kept it very simple contoured the features and made it look rosy by applying pink blush blending it really well, rather than applying too many shades. I feel overall the look turned out good.

Improvement/ What to do next time

I feel the hair could have looked nice spreading the curls on the forehead to give the fringe style, and if I could make the appearance darker, which I did try spraying the dark chocolate brown to the yellow bleached hair ends to mix in with the roots, but my actor became became itchy Afterwards due to the effect of the hair spray, so decided not to use any product further. I also feel, I could have played with couple of shades on the eyes to make them pop, but due to hoody eyes and small lid area I felt it might look messy, as every time I practiced on her, I did the hair and makeup together, and as she has loads of hair which to style up curling took over an hour and 20 minutes, so not much time left to play with the makeup colours. So next time I will try to practice the make up without the hair to play with blending of different shades and gain confidence with eye makeup. I forgot to apply white inner eyeliner although I did apply brown eyeshadow under the bottom lash to give liner effect. I will also try few different hair styles to time myself how long each takes., also will use thinner pins so they disappear in the hair style and not look visible anywhere on the head I will also try to work on using few shades of makeup and practice on blending techniques.

Improved/What went well – Second look

I enjoyed doing the second actor makeover, as it was simple, yet enhanced hair backcomb. As the actors’ (Sophie- playing character of Mrs Cretchit) hair was very fine/oily so to create volume, I backcomb the hair and used hair spray to keep the volume of hair in place, then added false bun filler (which I managed to find synthetic hair and made into sausage rolled) at the back for further volume and rolled into bun, then flatten in the front over the ears and tucked back over the bun, smoothed down fly away hair with hair spray. make up went well and quick as didn’t have any issues of spreading eye liner to the lid. though she was sensitive when applying eyeliner, so I tried talking to her to role her eyes up to the ceiling, so she doesn’t feel the poking fear. I also managed to apply eyelashes and eyeliner under the top lash line without making her eyes water. I am happy with the overall look of my second actor (Sophie)

Improvement/ What I can do better next time

Next time I will use stronger hair spray , so it sets the fly away hair fast. I feel I could have sprayed the hair to give darker look and checked with my tutor if I can exaggerate the look and enhanced eye shadow with smoky look , but I felt it might look out of the era theme. Although it could have been ok with it being theatre performance.
