Project 4 Reflections

06/02/2024- Today we started to learn about the different types of auditions and how to come prepared to an audition. There are different types of auditions such as a group audition where you dance in a group for your audition compared to a solo, duo or group of three audition. I have learnt that every audition is different and come in different types and forms, I have learnt how important it is to come organised and prepared to an audition and that you must come acting professional to an audition other wise you will be likely not picked or just told that this audition isn’t right for you. Moving forward I will use what I have learnt today to potentially help me to get selected during a audition in the future. I could use the preparations that we have learnt today in many different areas of my personal and professional life not just for auditions for example I could use these techniques of preparation for a general job interview. It is important to prepare because perfect planning planning prevents poor performance.

07/01/2024-Today we focused more on solo dancing auditions, where I worked in a group with two other students to create a dance peice for our practice auditions in order to get us ready for the real auditions. We spent some time figuring out what song we were going to use and then worked together collaboratively to create and dance peice. We then spent some time practicing our dance before performing the routine under audition conditions infront of our dance tutor. Doing this helped me to understand the pressure and conditions during auditions and helped me to act professionally and with confidence whilst doing so.

19/01/2024- Today we worked in our groups on our scenes. Myself and another cast member in my group worked together with another cast member from another group to sub in as our other cast member was not in. I think that we have developed our scene well and made it our own interpretation of the scene considering we have only managed to practice it today together due to having a half term and being the only cast member in prior to the holidays. I am feeling more at ease and confident after being actually able to rehearse it as a group. Myself and several other cast members also took it in turns to practice our scene as we had multiple of the same character and only one if each of the other characters in the scene, I think that this was very helpful and eye opening due to being able to watch how others interpret the same scene and same character.

20/01/2024- Today we worked infront of level 3 extended whilst they monitored all of the different groups and scenes that we are practicing for our auditions so that they could get an impression of who they would like to play who as FMP will be directed by themselves. We also recieved Level 3 extendeds proposal for the FMP and we got a taster of what our final project is going to be. I think that I am going to really enjoy our last project and I am plan to be as organised and prepared for this project as possible.

26/02/2024-Today we continued to practice in our groups to develop our audition scenes further. I fully know all my lines now and I have enjoyed playing around with the characterisation of my character I.e my facial expressions and body language. Because a member of my group hasn’t been in to practice we have been working in bigger groups with members from other groups to practice our scene. I think doing this has helped me and others to do a manner of things such as team work, better communication and take direction due to every group doing the scene differently. This has enabled me to develop my own character further. Today I also worked on my song further with the individual I am doing my duet with I think that this is coming along really well and I’m happy with how it is turning out. I am feeling confident to do my audition on Wednesday.

27/02/2024- Today we continued to rehearse for our auditions tomorrow under supervision from level 3 extended so that they are able to see how everyone works ect. I think that by doing this it helped to keep myself and others more focused on practicing our scenes. Again we worked in bigger groups to help one another practice our scenes. I am feeling very confident our auditions tomorrow. I think that by going over our small audition scene repeatedly it has helped me to be able to do our scene on the spot without a script and be able to take direction and improvise to improve and develop the scene to make it as interesting and believable as possible. We also had dance today where we have been learning a ‘mock dance ‘ that we had to learn within a short space of time and then perform as we will be doing this tomorrow for our auditions as this is what happens in ‘real’ auditions. I think that the skills that I have gained since starting this course in regards to my dancing skills has helped me to be able to memorise dance routines quicker in able to be able to perform them on demand shortly after learning them. I think that this will be very useful for tomorrow’s auditions.

28/02/2024- Today we had our auditions and I think that it went quite well and I am happy with how they went. We first had our singing auditions, before my auditions I first did some vocal warm ups using a YouTube warm up video to do so. Doing this helped me to prepare my voice to do my vocal audition. Overall I think that it went well and I projected my voice to a satisfactory level apart from my voice braking once but otherwise I am pleased with my performance. After this we had our dance auditions, we were taught the dance shortly before we performed it in groups, it was too a jazz themed song that we will he using for our FMP. I really enjoyed learning this choreography and I think when it came to performing it I did okay. I think that I remembered most of my dance moves and I tried to give it my all and have good focus during the learning process and audition performance. Lastly we had our acting auditions I am satisfied with my performance although I feel that it could have gone better in regards to my characterisation and body language.
