Project 2 Viva and Evaluation and Authentication

Written VIVA

Evaluation

Overall I think that we did amazingly as a company for where or performance went and how far we came from where our pantomime started a lot of our cast had never even seen a pantomime before and some had only seen recordings of pantomimes or seen them on the television. I feel that we really grew as a company and solidified our work as a team together and used this as a strength in the run up to the show and in rehearsals. I enjoyed being able to use my creativity and imagination through the creation of my character the evil queen and Strengthen my skills. In the begining of this project I doubted myself on my ability to actually be able to do the show especially as a main character however I proved my self wrong and againts my disbelief in myself and I was able to preform it for both shows and improve my preformances each time. I feel that I have learnt alot throughout the process of our cast creating our pantomime and down to blocking, running through scenes to get the timing right or knowing cues. I had to pay close attention to cues and when I needed to be onstage or to be leaving the stage as alot of my cues required me to enter/exit through the crowd verus coming on and off via the curtains on stage. This definently taught me to keep focus when off stage between scenes during rehearsals and even more so during the performances so that knew exactly where I needed to be and when. If I didn’t do this, this could have potentially effected other members of the cast and their performances. I also feel that I have learnt how important it is to not only learn lines as soon as you get them but to also learn your cues asap and any lines in any songs you may have.

What would the audience think?

I think that the audience would feel that the performance was good but certain areas could use improvement such as knowing lines and cues, and being able to improvise on the spot if something goes wrong, for example certain points in the show lines were learnt however the order of certain lines would get muddled with others when multiple Characters were on stage and we had to use improve and it got quite awkward at certain points. I also think that they would think that when people in the cast are off stage they need to be quite behind the curtains as even if they think they can’t be heard they can be and it distracts from whoever is performing on stage at that time.

what do I think about the peice?

I think that overall it went well but there was definitely room for improvement and I think that it could have been even better than it was. I think that it gives us a good impression of what’s yet to come for our next preformance and what we can expect. I think that this peice was a great learning curve and it helped me to expand my knowledge and skills within the Performing Arts proffession. I think that although there were points where I believed we wouldn’t be able to pull the show together we did and this has taught me that if you persevere you can accomplish anything.

Lighting, sounds, costumes, set, performance, proffessionalism of the company- noise back stage

I think that the lighting for the show went well despite having technical issues with the lights a few days prior to the performance and the lights we close for the show l.e the different types of colours and brightness of the lights. I think that the headmics were difficult to work with in the begining and the volumes with them ensuring that they were turned on when they needed to be and turned up and down via the sound board. I feel that once we got used to them they were easy to work with proffesionally. I feel that we could have more peices of set to be in our performance and it could have helped with the imagination for our audience, however I think that the set team worked really hard in producing the prices of set we did have. I think that the professionalism of the cast could have been better but it has come along way from how it has been in rehersals however the noise backstage was still very loud during the performances regardless of certain members trying to keep cast backstage quite during scenes. I think that cast members dont realise how loud it actually is for the audience and also when you are wearing a headmic they wont always be turned down in time and you don’t have enough time to turn on and off your mic inbetween scenes.

Marketing Materials

I think that the marketing materials that we used were sufficient enough for the performance, we created posters and programs for the performances. Program’s were placed on each of the seats for audiences and posters were put up around the college for promotional purposes we did not use promotional sources such as social media as the performance was more of a family and friend audience and we promoted that through word of mouth this is also the reason we did not use tickets for the shows. We did however ask for donations from the audience during the intervals to go towards our next performances.

Feedback from the audience

The feedback we recieved from the audience was mixed but on a overall I feel that it was positive. They criticized about the proffessionalism of the cast in regards to the noise backstage and cast members looking behind the curtains to see what is happening on stage for cues ect. I agree with what they were saying and think that this is something the cast need to work on as a whole company. They also spoke about when members forgot their lines, not being able to improvise and carry it on and having awkward silences in scenes. I feel that this is somthing alot of us need to work on myself included. However they also feedback positive feedback such as having good confidence and still being able to carryon even when things went wrong and even turn it into something funny. They also complimented our dance routines and the fact that we were in sync with one another.
