I am wanting my next step in my education to be taking place within a university that offers a suitable course, either within composition or performance. Therefore taking this into consideration, i have researched various universities to ensure that i enjoy higher education.
When researching i considered:
I also watched performances from bands/solo artists that have studied at the universities i have researched to give me a better understanding of what i will learn within the upcoming years.
Location
I wanted the location to be fairly close to home, within 1/2 hours away. However i also wanted to move from my home to a brand new city to gain more freedom and independence.
I wanted the general area to have various venues to both watch gigs and perform at. As well as this I want a place which has a variety of shops to go to that would be fairly close to student accommodation.
Finally i wanted to have a range of universities that would offer me contrasting locations to ensure that i had a variety of options.
The course
The courses I researched were:
- Songwriting
- Performance
- Or a mixture of both.
I want to develop my songwriting skills further and have opportunities to record and produce my own songs within studying my course. I also want lots of opportunities to perform within my course as this would give me more experience within the industry and i will gain more confidence.
The university
I researched various universities to ensure that i would be doing the right course that would push my skills and abilities further and also develop me as an artist. As well as this i want to enjoy the next years of my life within education.
Entry requirements
When researching, i firstly looked at the course and then i looked at the requirements. Within each university that i researched i ensured to chose a variety of different courses/course modules. Some of the entry requirements were much higher than others that i chose, this would then give me a better chance of getting a place within the university and on the course, but would also push my grades higher this year to ensure that i try and get into a university with higher entry requirements.
