Comparing the the tribute bands:
The Marley experience has a price range of £1700-£2300 however the One Love Orchestra has a price range of £4500-£5000. This could either suggest that one is more well known than the other and therefore charging a higher price or it may offer a wider range of services. They are both available around the UK and they are both ‘professional and authentic.’ This means that they perform songs as close to Bob Marley’s versions as possible. The One Love Orchestra includes a ‘9-11 piece band’ however The Marley experience has an availability of a band and an option of backing singers available.
With both bands being a tribute to Bob Marley this means that they both perform authentic covers from Bob Marley’s selection of songs.
Tribute bands
The good thing about Tribute Bands is the fact that they can continue to provide entertainment to those who love the artist, this means that if the artist dies then the Tribute Band can continue to play their songs through many venues. This both brings attention to the artists in a positive way and it provides entertainment for the audience who continue to listen to the specific act. The tribute act also supports the actual artist they are a tribute band for, for example, The One Love Orchestra takes inspiration from Bob Marley to continue the legacy of his music.
The bad thing about Tribute Bands is the fact that if they perform unsuccessfully then they could possibly damage the name of the artist that they are playing a tribute to. They are also not the real artist therefore people will pay much less to see the tribute act than if they were to see the real artist.
Overall Tribute Bands are a great way to spread music that many still love and listen to across various venues and around the world. I believe our Tribute Band’s aim was to take inspiration from Bob Marley to then further develop our skills of playing as a band which meant that we had to take music that everyone knows and loves and make it a new unique version. However this can be difficult as we didn’t know how authentic to Bob Marley we wanted to be, as we wanted to keep some form of authenticity but also create a unique set list.
