This is the video of our Final Performance for the Tribute Band Gig on the 08/02/2018:

MY EVALUATION

I believe that the final performance went well because I played with confidence. This is due to practising outside of the rehearsals as well as with the band in rehearsals. I believe that I knew the chords to each of the songs to some extent and therefore I performed confidently. I also believe that the final performance went well because I communicated with the band whilst on stage by giving eye contact when certain parts were meant to be played, I believe that this made the performance better because I engaged with the rest of the band and therefore they played the correct parts when directed. I also did this through the rehearsals as then it would then be exactly like the final performance. Another reason that I believe it went successful was due to knowing the set list. Overall I believe that my involvement in the final performance of our Bob Marley Tribute Band was successful in many ways due to my communication, confidence and preparation.

However I believe that the final performance was unsuccessful in many ways because during the performance, as we were about to perform Three Little Birds, I realised that I had the wrong chord sheet infront of me, therefore I started to play another song from the set list. This meant that at the start of that song I got confused on which chords to play, so I waited until it was best to join in after successfully finding the correct chords to play. This problem could have been prevented if I was to ensure that my lyric/chord sheets were in the correct order so that I could perform without any issues. Another way it could have been prevented is if I ensured that I learnt all the chords from memory, therefore I would have not had to rely on the chord sheets. I also believe that the final performance could have been more successful if I had practised more at home and if I had been more prepared for the performance. Due to learning a lot of songs in a small amount of time it would have been beneficial if I had practised more at home, this would have ensured that I could perform more confidently without worrying about the chords.

THE BANDS EVALUATION

The final performance was successful in many ways due to the band enjoying playing the songs and playing confidently to some extent. As we performed we knew the set list so therefore we could be prepared for the song we had next, due to our preparation we were able to perform with a high level of confidence because we knew the chords, rhythm and structure of the song. Additionally because we had played the beginning and endings of the songs from our set list we were able to perform professionally. This then meant that we enjoyed playing the songs because we could add our unique and individual style to ensure that we were not just playing the songs the exact same. To do this we first of all added rapping into some of the songs because one of our band members was predominantly a rapper, he also included some percussion, however adding rapping into our songs ensured that they were unique. This meant that within our band we let everyone perform within their individual style and strengths. This therefore ensured that our band could enjoy performing the songs.

However I believe that the final performance could have been improved if each of the band members had rehearsed in between the set rehearsals. This would have consequently improved our confidence during the final performance. To do this we could have rehearsed during lunchtimes or been more time efficient during the set rehearsals. There could have been many possible ways that this could have been solved, which include:

  • Making sure that we practice as many songs as possible within the time we have and not playing in between rehearsing each song.
  • Going through our set list and practising the parts which we were unsure of more.
  • Communicating more outside of rehearsals, this could include messaging the group chat which we had created to inform each other of what our next rehearsal would include. Or it could have included meeting during some lunchtimes to discuss what we wanted to rehearse more.

If we had done this, the final weeks could have been used more effective when rehearsing as we could have added more dynamics to each of the songs, this would have made each of the songs interesting and unique. However because we needed to learn our set list we had no time to go through each song and add dynamics or take out certain instruments in different parts. This would have massively improved our performance because we wouldn’t just be performing the songs as they are but we could have used our strengths as a band to make our set list successful.
