Successes

The successes of this performance were my stage presentation, I believe that this is important due to this being the first impression of your personality and music that the audience receive. I also believe it’s important because it presents your artistic image. I also think that wearing something which you feel comfortable and confident in increases the confidence you have on stage when performing. I believe that overall stage presence is vital within a performance due to it being visual and the main focus being on you. I see this as a success for my performance as I wore something colourful that expressed who I am as a person as well as what my music is like. Another success from my performance is the fact that my vocals were precise and my words were pronounced properly. Since my lyrics have a lot of meaning, pronouncing the words clearly is something important in my performance as then you can hear all the lyrics and the audience can infer their own meaning. Another success for my performance was the chords that I played on the piano, since I memorised all the chords and lyrics this meant that I had to ensure that I practiced repeatedly to ensure that I didn’t forget it under the pressure of performing. I think that this was a successful factor due to this being one of the most important factors in my performance as it accompanies me whilst I sing. Therefore if this was unsuccessful then the rest of my performance would have also been affect, but due to the extensive practice that I did, this didn’t occur. Another success was the venue. Since I was playing an acoustic set list, it would be best for me to play in an acoustic setting. This would therefore mean that the acoustics in the room would also benefit the sound of my set list/music. I believe that this was an important factor within my performance as it meant that I could be more intimate and engaging with the audience as they were sat on the same level as me and this meant that I could interact with them easier. As well as introducing and talking between each song, this meant that I could look at the audience easier whilst talking. Another successful element of the set was the position of the piano as it was turned slightly towards the audience, this meant that I could interact with the audience easier and I could look out to the audience during the performance in contrast to my final Mock Performance.

Improvements

An improvement that could have been made from this performance is the fact that I could have gone into depth about the meaning of my songs more when introducing them. By doing this I could have brought more meaning to the songs and let the audience know about how much the songs mean to me. This would have improved my performance due to completing the performance as a whole set rather than just playing music, but also involving the meaning and depth of the music. Another improvement for my Final Performance is that I could have had visuals for my performance, such as a backdrop with a video on of water. This would have developed the performance as it would have showcased the whole EP as one rather than just a set list of music. This would have also been a good opportunity to showcase my EP and the release of it. This is also another improvement, due to bringing the whole EP together as one cohesive piece.

Overall

Overall I believe that my Final Performance was successful due to having performed 2 mocks prior to this performance. I believe that since I had extra preparation it made me more confident when I was performing my music. I believe that I took the improvements from my mocks and used them for my successes in this performance. I also thoroughly enjoyed performing in this venue as the acoustics worked to my advantage due to performing an acoustic set in an acoustic venue. I do believe that with visuals added it would massively improve the performance and with other instrumentation such as, Loop Pedals/Ableton. This would make sure that it was a fully prepared and detailed performance.
