RECORDING TECHNIQUES:

Since I will be focusing on recording vocals and piano, I need to know how to get the perfect position of the microphone to get the best audio of my vocals and piano for my tracks. I already know how to set up a studio, however I thought I would research into the specifics of setting up a microphone for recording.

The position

Whilst I record my vocals I should experiment with the ‘placement and isolation’ of the microphone.(Microphone Techniques- Shure). This will ensure that there is no unwanted noise in the background and it will also let me experiment with the ‘acoustics’ of the room.

I have also researched the positioning to record a piano, as I will also be recording an acoustic version of my EP to present afterwards. I need to know how to set up the microphones in the correct place to record a perfect acoustic piano sound that presents the desired recording sound possible. For this I could place the microphone ’12 inches above’ the ‘middle strings.’ This will ensure that I record a ‘natural’ and ‘well balanced sound.’

CONDENSER

To record my vocals I will be using a condenser microphone with a pop filter/shield, this will ensure any popping sounds are eliminated before recording. This will make the vocals sound more professional and clean.

DYNAMIC

For performing I will be using a dynamic microphone which only projects sound that is directed in front of it and within its range. This ensures that it is only producing sound in the PA of the vocals and not any sound coming forward or from other instruments on stage.
