REHEARSALS:

REHEARSALS

Before we rehearsed each of the songs we listened to them to ensure that we knew the tempo, rhythm and melody. This gave us a better idea of what we would be practising.

9th November This was our first rehearsal where we decided what our set list should be. Our first song that we decided to rehearse was Buffalo Soldier. We rehearsed this in the Henry Mitchell Hall in Bradford College where we also learnt about live sound in venues. Individually we took turns to use the mixing desk to then provide sound to the PA as the other Tribute Band (Queen) was playing.
16th November For this rehearsal we developed Buffalo Soldier further, after learning the chords in the first rehearsal we decided that we should ensure that the rhythm was similar to the original song and ensured that we kept the same tempo throughout.
23rd November During this rehearsal we decided that we should try and rehearse as many songs as possible and then ensure that they were perfected during the last couple of rehearsals. Therefore we chose to rehearse Three Little Birds. However a problem that we faced multiple times throughout the rehearsal was that not many people knew the chords/lyrics as the rest of the band didn’t organise this between rehearsals. This therefore meant that rehearsals were slower and not as productive as we thought they would be.
30th November During this rehearsal we ran through both of the songs, Buffalo Soldier and Three Little Birds and made sure that everyone was confident playing the chords, we then rehearsed the start and end of each of the songs to ensure that they sounded professional.
7th December In this rehearsal we decided to rehearse a new song which was Is This Love. We firstly learnt the chords as a band. We attempted to run through this song however kept facing some issues with the timing of the chords and when the next chord should be played. So we decided that we should rehearse that individually before the next rehearsal. We then ran through the other 2 songs again.
14th December In this rehearsal we ran through Is This Love, and we just needed to ensure that the chords at the beginning were played correctly. We continued to keep running through it multiple times ensuring that this was then played correctly. We discussed which songs we should learn over Christmas, one of the main ones that we decided we should learn was Turn your Lights Down Low.
4th January To remember what we had rehearsed before, we ran through the set list so far as it took a while to get used to playing the songs again. We ensured that the arrangement of the songs were played correctly. We then began to attempt to play Turn your Lights Down Low however there were some band members who didn’t learn the chords from the last rehearsal, therefore we had to run through the chords in this practice session. This took a lot of time in our rehearsal and therefore we didn’t get to run through this song properly.
11th January For this session I ensured that I printed off all the chords for all the songs for the rest of the band so that we could run through the rehearsals quicker. This helped a lot because we could run through the songs because the chords were in front of us. During this session we fully ran through Turn your Lights Down Low.
18th January Since the gig was coming up, we knew that we had to rehearse the last song quickly, we were unsure to which song we wanted to keep and which song we wanted to cut out, therefore we tried to rehearse Could you be Loved and Jammin’ and they both didn’t go as planned, therefore we had the help of our tutors to help us with the chord progressions and the rhythm of the songs.
25th January By this rehearsal we decided that we should include Jammin’ into our set list due to it being the easier song out of the two. We rehearsed this song several times and we also attended a lunchtime rehearsal in this week to ensure that we rehearsed all our songs thoroughly.
1st February In this rehearsal we ensured that Jammin’ was fully rehearsed, to do this we ran through the song multiple times and we also ran through the beginning and endings of each song to make them cleaner and more professional, this meant that we didn’t run through our full set list yet.
6th February During this rehearsal we ran through our entire set list multiple times, we then ran through any parts of each song that we thought needed more rehearsing. Therefore we touched up on any small details that would ensure that our performance would be more professional and yet unique.
8th February This was the date of our Final Performance and Sound Check/Mock Performance. Through the Sound Check we ran through the songs which we felt like were not the best songs and that needed more work so we could have an extra practice on the parts we felt unsure of. This meant that for our Final Performance we were fully prepared.

This is a video of one of our rehearsals where we rehearsed Turn your Lights Down Low.
