Band composition
Track 3 – The Band composition
I got together with my college band, and firstly we disscussed on what we wanted to compose about. we decided to tell a story about a troubled kid that had problems at home, where the kids mother was a drug addict. Since the story is about a kids troubled life we thought the genre of the song should be pop/ hip hop as we have also got a rapper in our band.
We chose the scale to be a C major signature, which we then ended up with the chords Am – Em – Dm – F – G. The structure of our song was, intro 2 bars – chorus 4 bars – verse 16 bars – chorus 8 bars – verse 16 bars – chorus 8 bars – break down – ending chorus 16 bars. Ant rapped for the verse and i sang for the chorus.
Ant wrote the lyrics about the boy and described the boys life where he gets kicked out of home and rapped that for the verse. I came up with the melody that was performed on the 29thof Nov, and wrote the lyrics….
It’s a lonely road when you’re alone
when you ain’t got a place you can call your home
it’s a lonely road when you are stuck in this place
but you can’t call home.
These lyrics focus on the fact that the kid has been kicked out of home, and i’m describing that being alone without a home is a lonely road. These lyrics are are writen in 1st person narrative which tells us that these are the words that the boy is saying. Ant wrote the lyrics in 3rd person narrative to tell the story about the boy.
