Viva Voce
Final Overall Evaluation
Strengths
I Believe that I did well with composing and recording the songs within the time scale we got. Although I didn’t know I would mix the songs, I believe that I did well in being in control of the band and mixing them and solving problems. I was leading the band and told them what we should do next and told them when we should rehears. I believe that the performance of both the audio and live went well and the audience enjoyed it, I also showed the songs to some of the students and they were positive about it and said they liked it. I performed in three different genre sets, I performed with my band in the genre or hip-hop/r&b, Jazz song with Finlay and performed a musical song with Leah. I believe that I did well on giving myself targets and stood by them. Before doing something for example, composing the song on Logic I practiced first so that when im actually doing it i have a bit of experience or more knowledge about it. Although one song wasn’t recorded I believe both me and the band worked enough in the time we got given. My research gave me a good head start and helped me for the production of the EP.
Weaknesses
I kept a diary log but didn’t carry it out through out the full project which I believe is one reason why we ran out of time at some points in our project. I didn’t upload work daily and I left writing up till later rather than doing it everyday and making it sit in my phone. I could of recorded full rehearsal sessions of me practicing as that would show my progress throughout the practices and if I was going anywhere/moving forward or if I was stuck in the same place. We also failed to produce and record the second cover as we ran out of time.
Over all I think this project gave me a good experience in working in a studio and working as a composer for a band and working in collaboration which you need in the music industry. It taught me the process of writing, recording and releasing my own music. This project gave me the experience of producing a song by yourself or in a band.
Things to improve on
- keep an on going diary log through out the whole project
- upload work daily
- document everything
- try your hardest not to fall behind as it could have consequences
- dont leave stuff till last minute
- research and look into production in software like Logic and getting better at using it
- explore different genres to sing/play or compose in
For the future/next year I would like to look into getting better in production and perfecting my skills, becoming a better performer and start getting more gigs together for experience and thinking of it as a profession.
