Set List & Rehearsals

we as a band chose these songs as these songs are some of his really  popular songs. Jammin, is this love and three little birds are classified as the most popular Bob Marley songs.
The set list has changes a lot during our rehearsals

Our band was community on facebook messenger out side of college. We discussed our song choices, sent each other chord charts/lyrics and talked about what clothing colour to wear for the final performance. As a band we originally chose the set list to be,
•Buffalo soldier
•Three little birds
•Turn your lights down low
•Is this love
•No woman no cry
We then changed it to
• Buffalo soldier
•Three little birds
•Turn your lights down low
•Jammin’
•Is this love
•Could you be loved
At that time we decided to replace ‘no woman no cry’ with ‘Jammin’ as that song was known better by the band members and it was a more popular song by Bob Marley. We also added could you be loved to the set list to expand it.
we then changed the set list again to,
•buffalo soldier
•is this love
•turn your lights down low
•three little birds
• jammin’
The reason we removed ‘Could you be loved’ was because most of the members in the group was not happy with that song although it was an easier song to do we thought that 5 songs were enough, as we have limited rehearsal timings, which was every Thursday from 13:30 – 15:30. We was afraid of not learning it on time for the gig.
As we started rehearsing all the songs, we rehearsed jammin’ and the band realised that the song has a lot going on instrumentally and and was slightly harder to play for us than the song that was replaced, which was ‘Could you be loved.
We then switched the two songs around again and removed Jammin’.
Our band once again switched the songs again at last minute as our tutor suggested to do that song and we knew that song better than ‘could you be loved’ as we have already rehearsed the song.

Analysis of songs

Buffalo Soldier” is a song written by Bob Marley and Noel Williams, and recorded by Bob Marley and ‘The Wailers’

The Buffalo Soldiers was the name given to the African American soldiers. The first verse of the song “stolen from Africa, brought to America, Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival” tells about how the Africans were brought to Africa against their will and they had to fight to survive. In the song, Bob Marley sings, “Then you wouldn’t have to ask me, Who the heck do I think I am.” He is speaking out for the African Americans who aren’t treated as equals. The Buffalo Soldiers who fought to help build the United States were not treated as equals. The answer, “I’m just a Buffalo Soldier…win the war for America” reminds us that the African Americans were instrumental in building America.

In this song Bob Marley is trying to get through to a woman the deep feelings of love and commitment he feels towards her. “We’ll be together with a roof right over our head”, and “We’ll share the shelter of my single bed” show him expressing his willingness to settle down with the woman. “I wanna love and treat you right” is him telling the woman how he can do right by her. Towards the end he says “I am willing and able so I put my cards on your table” this shows how he’s put himself out there now its up to her to decide if she feels the same.

Once again this song is about his love to a woman.
